Slalom training Slalom training will run for 3 weeks – 16 November till 5 December 2008. This is intended to be a solid 3 week block of training, designed to help those training towards the Test Technique in France. This block of training will finish the week prior to the first Test of the season in Alpe d’Huez. Generally speaking, the majority of BASI members who train for the Test Technique have relatively little experience of slalom racing. As a result, there is a lot of ground to cover in a short period of time. There are several key factors therefore to consider as we construct the training. Firstly, getting used to ‘hitting the gates’ takes time. There are drills and exercises that work well in building confidence and skill in this area. Secondly, technical skiing skill is obviously very important. As the block is only 3 weeks long, we can’t turn anyone into Alain Baxter in such a short time so it is recommended to get some of the technical training done at an earlier date (summer / autumn). This should allow you then to concentrate in training to ski slalom rather than learning to ski properly! On top of what has already been mentioned, you’ll work physically, tactically and mentally as well. Not only to get the best out of your physical ability and condition, but also to inspect and understand slalom courses, and then apply mental skills such as attention control and visualisation. We film performance most days, and also run race simulations towards the end of the programme in readiness for the test itself. Dates: 16 November - 5 December (training 6 days per week) Location: Tignes, France.
